Sky now makes Sky Sports available through commercial wholesale arrangements with its pay TV competitors, including BT, for its BT Vision service, TalkTalk and Virgin Media. However, Ofcom will continue to monitor closely market developments and, if necessary, will quickly step back in. Given the evidence of Sky's supply arrangements, Ofcom is lifting the wholesale must-offer regulation.

Since 2010, consumers have been able to choose from a wider range of services, enabling them to watch sports through a range of pay TV broadcasters and devices.įollowing consultation and evidence from stakeholders, Ofcom has found that Sky is now supplying sports widely on commercial terms outside of the regulation. Last year, Ofcom began a review to determine whether regulation remained appropriate. The 'wholesale must-offer' regulation was introduced in 2010 to promote choice and innovation for consumers through greater competition in pay TV 1.

I understand you now also have to register with Humax to get their 2nd year.Ofcom today announced its decision to remove the regulation requiring Sky to offer Sky Sports 1 and 2 on a wholesale basis, as the company is now widely supplying these channels to other pay TV providers on commercial terms. The thermal-paper receipts the store gave out had faded to invisibility. I once had to convince Humax a satellite box was in warranty because it had not been on sale for more than their 2 year period. Incidentally my understanding of the pricing regulations is that an item had to be actually on sale for one month before they can use the price.īTW, if you do buy from Argos, make sure you take a photocopy and electronic copy (scan or photo) of your receipt. To spread the joy, a salesthing in Dixons/Currys tried to convince me that a box recorded because it had HD for "hard drive" on the box.Īrgos' only saving grace, apart from the cricket fielding practice you get as they fling your goods over the collection counter, is that they tend to have new models from Humax in very soon after launch. At one point when the first generation HD tuner boxes were starting to come down (and there were in effect only two OEM boxes available apart from Humax etc - the Vestel had 13 different "brand names"), they were selling one badged as a Grundig for 6 times the price you could get a differently badged one discounted.
NEW BT YOUVIEW BOX 2015 PLUS
I have monitored the prices they charge for various different set top boxes and the normal pattern is that they charge for the box alone what Richer Sounds charge for the box plus their 5 year warranty. They are also among the most expensive stores for the base price. That together with the ridiculous "special offers" (they regularly offer "half price" SCART leads with high definition equipment) and their "three year" warranty that only adds one year to the Humax one for a stupid amount of money is why I avoid Argos. Order it on line and you are covered by the Distance Selling Regulations which allow you to return it within 7 days of receiving it without having to give a reason. They exclude all set top boxes and many other technology items from their 30 day money back non-guarantee.
NEW BT YOUVIEW BOX 2015 MANUAL
While that one does not have a hard drive, it also lacks a channel display to save money - like the DTR T2110.įor those who haven't followed the earlier thread the user manual is here: . I have speculated that Humax will put the innards of this box into a different case for the retail market - possibly all black and in a similar design to their new HB 1000S satellite box. The T2110's design matches the BT router's black top with a silver "podium" and was obviously produced for them rather than being off the shelf. Tesco Direct had the T2110 on their web site for £199 just after Christmas but delivered the T1000 and they took down that page. (That's despite it not being officially announced!) Earlier this month Humax's direct sales site was completely out of the silver cased T1010s but they appear to be available again now. That suggests to me that we will see no more of the black T1000 especially as BT are now showing this new model on their pages. Usually these are returns which have been refurbished but my old box was swapped out with a brand new retail boxed one last January. Humax are apparently out of exchange T1000 stocks at the moment. It looks like Argos might well have had the same thing happen to them except Humax had probably run out of all T1000s. They told me they had some BT badged T1000s (the old model) delivered as Humax were out of stock of the Humax branded ones. They do not yet have any details on their systems although they are aware of it. I spoke to the mail order line at Richer Sounds today.
